Graham, in the context of rhythm you may find Guenon's essay on The Lanuage of The Birds interesting:

http://www.worldwisdom.com/public/viewpdf/default.aspx?article-title=The_Language_of_the_Birds_by_Rene_Guenon.pdf

This brings us back directly and very clearly to what was said above about the “language of the birds,” which we can also call “angelic language,” and of which the image in the human world is rhythmic speech; for the “science of rhythm,” which admits of many applications, is the ultimate basis of all the means that can be brought into action in order to enter into communication with the higher states. That is why an Islamic tradition says that Adam, in the earthly Paradise, spoke in verse, that is, in rhythmic speech; this is related to that “Syrian language” (lughah suryāniyyah) of which we spoke in our previous study on the “science of letters,”∗ and which must be regarded as translating directly the “solar and angelic illumination” as this manifests itself in the center of the human state. This is also why the Sacred Books are written in rhythmic language which, clearly, makes of them something quite other than the mere “poems,” in the purely profane sense, which the anti-traditional bias of the modern critics would have them to be. Moreover, in its origins poetry was by no means the vain “literature” that it has become by a degeneration resulting from the downward march of the human cycle, and it had a truly sacred character.7 Traces of this can be found up to classical antiquity in the West, when poetry was still called the “language of the Gods,” an expression equiva lent to those we have indicated, in as much as the Gods, that is, the Devas,8 are, like the angels, the representation of the higher states. In Latin, verses were called carmina, a designation relating to their use in the accomplishment of rites; for the word carmen is identical to the Sanskrit karma which must be taken here in its special sense of “ritual action”;9 and the poet himself, interpreter of the “sacred language” through which the divine Word appears, was vates, a word which defined him as endowed with an inspiration that was in some way prophetic.

Indeed, I've also found endless treasure in the Meditations. I should also note that the related threads upon which you tug and also very welcome.

I've enclosed a link that may be of interest, an essay from Emil Páleš regarding evolutionary theory:

Hmm, are you able todescribe more what it is you are trying to find, an answer to a particular question, i mean, that somehow pertains to rhythm?

A couple of things sprang to mind when you mentioned rhythm (just be assocation). One was the Happy Hunting Grouds (red Indian paradise) and the other was the Kybalion

I have a couple of Dr. Godwin's books - if memory serves I have The Mystery of the Seven Vowels and Harmonies of Heaven and Earth. He doesn't address rhythm in depth. There's plenty of help out there for studying intervals and scales as one 'half' of the traditional science of music, but if one wants to study the other 'half' - rhythm - there isn't a whole lot.

That is such a kind thing to say and do, thank you, I am also grateful to find others on the road and hoped, when I created this site, that it would help to do just that. I'm very glad if you have found something in it and are enjoying the messages from our friend. I have read the book many times and found so much to treasure, no matter how often one opens it there seems to be something new inside.

Thank you for all of your posts, especially your poetry and excerpts from our friend from beyond the grave. Your writing is welcomed and helpful, and I'm writing to encourage you to continue. Having arrived at the Meditations -- and all that comes with it -- I'm grateful to find other travelers.

Kind regards,

...for the history of Christianity is not that of adjusting to world progress - it is the story of the return of the Prodigal Son, ie, humanity, to the Father's House. its path is not so much a forming of the future as a resurrection of the past - not indeed the mere return of the past, but the reawakening of its eternal core of truth in all its greatness and nobility.

As the fall of the human being into sin was a descent from the heights of consciousness of the everlasting Presence of God, so does the way of reascent lead through the same stages by which the descent was made - that is, throgh the stages of resurrection of the past.

And the future of the world, its end, the Last Day, is not the final triumph of the progress of natural evolution, but the state of the resurrection of the whole of the past. The Last Day is no specific 'day' of the last year of the world, but is the ever present process of resurrection that culminates in the resurrection of the eternal 'first day of creation'.

It is the primarl creative Word: 'Let there be light!' t hat forms the essence of the Last Judgement. yes, the world passes away - and simultaneously it is resurrected. The eternal creative Word: 'Let there be light', is the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, and the eternall present (Revelation xxi, 6).

I just saw I didn't leave a reference for the book I quoted from - it is the Inner Development lectures by Valentin Tomberg. So in that sense you are right, but he certainly isn't the only person to talk about the lesser and greater Guardians. The former might be described, perhaps, as the sum of our fears, our lowest self, but I think that is to simplify. In answer to your question, without meaning to seem trite, as it's surely easier to say than do consciously, one must commit to the road of inner development and the great work of at-one-ment and universal salvation. By proceeding along the path this meeting becomes inevitable. There are other types of guardians at other types of threshold - seen at akashic gateways, for instance, which require perfect will and motivation to gain entry (for our own protection). I'm not sure if any of this helped.....in terms of 'practice' I'd say meditations and contemplative prayer are the ways in. Also burning desire to do this work.
